I started out using the 30 day shred and have since bought the other two DVDs. All of them are great and challenging. I have been working out with DVD/Videos since 1989 and usually need advanced workouts. These do the trick. However, I think a beginner could also adapt to use these, especially Level 1 in the 30 day shred. The other ones all do circuits as well so you can do as much or as little as you can at first and work up. Very impressed with Jillian Michaels and I haven’t even seen the show!

Two Cardio Rules

Usually when I get to the health club or outside to jump on my bike I’m mentally ready to go and can’t wait to start, and that’s compounded that with being perpetually short on time.
First of the two Cardio Rules
However there is something you really should do first, and that’s warm up. Warming up makes it less likely you’ll injure yourself, and although many people know that, they often warm up wrong.
Stretching doesn’t constitute warming up, although that’s a popular misconception. Warming up is a few minutes, around 5 to 15, of light aerobic exercise. The less fit you are the longer a warm up you’ll need according to exercise experts.
If I’m at the gym, I may take a few slow laps on the track or walk gently on the treadmill. If I’m biking, I’ll pedal a mile or more gently and slowly on flat terrain. If I’m running, a common warm up is to walk a few minutes.
Second of the Cardio Rules,
After your workout you should cool down. Cooling down is simply a few minutes of easing out of your workout. Not cooling down can have negative consequences, even placing undue stress on your heart if you’re really out of shape.
If I’m biking my cool-down might be a couple of miles of very gentle peddling. If running, perhaps a slowdown culminating in a walk for a few minutes.
You really should be warming up before and cooling down after your cardio workouts. Skip them at your own risk, and remember that if you don’t have time to warm-up and cool down you really don’t have time to workout, at least not safely.

Walk to Great Health

It’s human nature to get excited about a new exercise plan. In fact, many beginners get so enthusiastic about the prospect of losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle that they overreach when setting weight loss goals. They think, “I’ve been walking since I was 2 years old. It’ll be no problem for me to walk two hours per day from the start.”
Unfortunately, that may not be doable. Not in the beginning, anyway. The best way to set your goal is to go for a walk first. See where your physical fitness level is to determine a realistic goal. For example, if you can walk for 5 minutes, set a goal of walking 8 minutes by the end of the week. To reach that goal, all you have to do is walk an extra 30 seconds per day.
Star with a 15 minutes Walk
You can choose to add 15 seconds per day or a minute per day, if you’d like. There isn’t a set amount. However you want to increase your workout time is fine. As long as you set a goal that is both challenging and reachable.
Once you achieve your first week’s goal, then create a new goal. For example, when you are able to walk 8 minutes per day, you can decide to increase your time one minute per day so by the end of the second week you’ll be walking 15 minutes. And before you know it, you’ll be able to walk an entire hour by the end of the month.
Many people who are overweight don’t begin to exercise because they feel 5 minutes of walking doesn’t make a difference, but their wrong. It’s not the amount of time or how fast someone is walking that makes a difference in the amount of calories burned, it’s the individual’s weight that matters most. For example, if you are 250lbs. and you walk five minutes, you’ll lose a lot more calories in that time that a person who is 115lbs. So any amount of time you put into exercising will benefit you.
